A Review of TESOL Training International - Cebu's 120 hour Online TESOL Course
This is my review of TESOL Training International in Cebu, Philippines.
I learned about TESOL just a few weeks prior to the start of the intensive course. I was at a point in my life when I felt that it is time to work on my remaining dreams, but none of them can happen in the Philippines, so I have to realize them somewhere else. Searching for alternative solutions led me to the acronyms TESOL and TEFL, and in Cebu, Knewton Training International was one of the two choices I have. I decided to take up the intensive course in January 2020 as it felt right to finish it as quickly as possible and the program seemed serious and credible compared to the alternative.
My first week in the training was so incredible and it amazed me every single day. I started the days full of excitement and enthusiasm and ended it with fulfillment and delight. I felt that I was learning new things and I’m enjoying what I am learning and doing. My boyfriend even noticed that I have no complaints at the end of the day and say only good things about the school and the class. During the first week of training, I learned a whole lot of theories on teaching. I am amazed at the amount of information that was new to me in spite of the fact that I have been teaching for several years already. Another thing that I enjoyed the most was the diversity of nationalities in the class. I had Japanese classmates, a British, an American, a Korean, a Filipino based in Spain and Filipinos from different regions in the country. It felt very good to be in a class of different backgrounds. I was able to learn from different nationalities and share my knowledge of the Philippine culture to them. My second week was just as full of excitement. My classmates and I have established friendships and we enjoy each other in the classroom, over lunch and even beyond the class over karaoke and shopping. We had good laughs as we learn new things together and demonstrate the lessons. I even celebrated my birthday with group and it was a day full of love and laughter.
My third and fourth weeks were a bit stressful due to the fact that the course is an intensive one and we have to make the all the plans and perform our demos all in a short period of time and one after the other. The best thing about the teaching demos are my experiences on the paired teaching demo for nursery and graders. I was paired with a Japanese lady and we had a ball doing our lesson plans, practicing for our classes and doing the actual class. I learned a lot from her and I hope she learned a lot from me. I believe we worked very well together as we listened to each other, looked out for one another, and worked with each other’s strengths and weaknesses. It was an unforgettable experience.
TESOL is a very systematic program that is effective in achieving the objective of preparing a teacher to teach the English language. It is organized to make a teacher ready to assess a language learner, create lesson plans, and actually teach different levels of learners. The school has the best teachers and admin staff. The teachers are very professional in demeanor and they really do know what they are talking about. They are intelligent and empathetic. The facilities of TESOL are right for the program. Overall, it is a wonderful learning environment.
